Veterans Day is a federal holiday. That one word, federal, is the whole reason people get UPS wrong on November 11.
Federal holidays close the post office. They do not close UPS.
So is UPS open on Veterans Day? Yes. UPS runs a normal Wednesday on November 11, 2026, with drivers on the road and sort centers staffed.
The catch lives in the corner of UPS that quietly borrows the Postal Service. Once you know which services those are, the whole day makes sense.
Is UPS open on Veterans Day for pickups and deliveries?
Ground, Air, and International all operate on their regular schedule. Drivers pick up and deliver. Tracking updates roll in the same way they do on any other weekday.
UPS’s own 2026 holiday operations schedule lists Veterans Day as open across the board. The same has held every year I have checked. UPS keeps a short closure list, and November 11 has never been on it.
Nothing changes for scheduled pickups either. A request booked through ups.com or the app runs like any other Wednesday.
Why UPS stays open when USPS does not
UPS is a private company and writes its own calendar. Its closed days are New Year’s Day, MLK Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Everything else is a working day.
USPS is part of the federal government, so it observes all eleven federal holidays, Veterans Day included. Post offices close, retail counters shut, and regular mail delivery does not run.
That contrast is really the whole answer to is UPS open on Veterans Day. UPS runs, USPS does not.
Waiting on a letter rather than a UPS package? Our breakdown of what USPS still moves on holidays covers that side.
The one real exception: Ground Saver and Mail Innovations
Here is the part most holiday roundups skip. UPS Ground Saver, the economy service that used to be SurePost, hands many packages to USPS for the last mile. UPS Mail Innovations does the same.
UPS and USPS split that arrangement briefly in 2025. A new deal then brought the post office back into the final leg for 2026. UPS now delivers some Ground Saver packages itself, but a lot still end up with your mail carrier.
On Veterans Day, that mail carrier is off. UPS says it plainly on its holiday schedule. Ground Saver and Mail Innovations deliveries need one additional business day in transit because USPS is closed.
A Ground Saver package with no scan on November 11 is expected, not lost. For the full mechanics, and how to tell which leg your package is on, see this guide to how SurePost and Ground Saver packages move.
| Service | Status on Veterans Day |
|---|---|
| UPS Ground and Air | Normal pickup and delivery |
| UPS International | Normal operations |
| UPS Ground Saver and Mail Innovations | Picked up and moved by UPS; the last mile waits one extra day where USPS handles it |
| The UPS Store (most locations) | Open, hours vary by franchise |
| USPS | Closed, no regular delivery |
| FedEx Express and Ground | Deliveries run; modified pickup times in some areas |
What about The UPS Store?
The UPS Store is a franchise network, not UPS the carrier. Each location has its own owner and sets its own hours.
Most stores stay open on Veterans Day with regular hours, and the UPS schedule lists them as open. Some near courthouses, federal buildings, or military bases close anyway because the foot traffic disappears.
Call first if you need something specific that day, like a notary or a printed label. Or check whether UPS is open today for any date you are unsure about.
Does the day affect your delivery date at all?
For standard Ground and Air, no. A package that shows an estimated delivery of November 11 delivers on November 11. UPS does not pad transit times for holidays it stays open on.
The place I would double check is anything shipped from a business that follows the federal calendar. A government office or a bank ships nothing that day.
The package does not enter the UPS network until November 12. That is a shipper delay, not a UPS one, but it looks the same on your end.
Honestly, the bigger risk is a closed school or office building that cannot sign for a delivery. If your package needs a signature at a business address, UPS finds the doors locked and tries again Thursday.
What if Veterans Day falls on a weekend?
Veterans Day is fixed to November 11, so it lands on a Saturday or Sunday every few years. The federal rule is simple: a Saturday holiday is observed the Friday before, a Sunday holiday the Monday after. USPS follows that rule.
UPS does not shift anything. Its schedule tracks the real date, and its core services run on the nearest weekday regardless.
The only thing that moves is the USPS closure. So the Ground Saver delay shows up on the observed Friday or Monday instead of the 11th.
In 2026 none of this applies. November 11 is a plain Wednesday.
What to do if your package is not moving
First, figure out which service you are on. A standard Ground or Air package with no scan for a day is showing ordinary transit behavior. That is not a Veterans Day problem.
A Ground Saver or Mail Innovations package that stalls on November 11 gets one extra business day before I would worry. Still frozen two full business days later?
Call UPS at 1-800-742-5877. By then a real delay is more likely than a holiday hangover.
Planning ahead is easier with the right tool. Our postal holiday and delivery day checker shows which carriers are working on any date you enter.
Bottom line
Is UPS open on Veterans Day? Yes, for pickups, deliveries, and international shipments, all on the normal schedule. Most UPS Store locations keep their hours too.
The only slowdown hits Ground Saver and Mail Innovations packages that ride USPS for the last mile. They wait out the one day the post office is closed, then move again Thursday.
Presidents Day works the same way, with UPS open and USPS closed. Christmas is a different animal, since UPS shuts down completely on Christmas Day.
