Mother’s Day always falls on a Sunday anyway. It does not add a new closure beyond the normal weekly pattern that already applies every week of the year.
UPS Express Critical is a separate urgent freight service. It runs every single day of the year, holidays included, for shipments that genuinely cannot wait.
Is UPS open on days people assume are closed
Several commonly confused dates are actually normal operating days for UPS. Valentine’s Day, Good Friday, Juneteenth, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day all run standard service.
The catch on three of those days involves a different carrier entirely. USPS is closed on Presidents Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day.
UPS Ground Saver and UPS Mail Innovations need one extra day of transit on those three dates. Both services hand off the final leg of delivery to the Postal Service. A USPS closure slows just that one piece.
Why UPS closes on these specific dates and not others
UPS chooses its own holiday list. It is not bound by the federal holiday calendar, though the two overlap on most major dates.
Easter and Mother’s Day appear on the UPS list even though neither is a federal holiday. UPS treats both as low volume, family focused days. Customer Centers close rather than stay staffed for light demand.
Days like Juneteenth and Columbus Day made the federal calendar more recently, and UPS still runs normal service on both. The list reflects UPS operational decisions, not a legal requirement to close.
Is UPS open: what closed actually means
On a true UPS holiday, three things stop at once. Standard pickup and delivery pause, Customer Centers close their doors, and phone support usually runs on a reduced schedule.
A UPS Access Point works a bit differently. It is a locker or counter hosted inside another retailer, like a pharmacy or grocery store.
If the host store stays open on a UPS holiday, an already held package may still be reachable. This depends on the individual host, and UPS does not guarantee it in writing. Calling ahead is worth the two minutes.
UPS Express Critical is the one true exception to all of this. That service moves urgent freight shipments 7 days a week, 365 days a year, holidays fully included.
Does this schedule cover The UPS Store?
This entire schedule describes UPS the carrier: Customer Centers, drivers, and pickup and delivery operations. The UPS Store is a separate franchise business with its own owners and its own hours.
UPS lists The UPS Store as running on limited locations for most of the closures above. Franchise owners set their own holiday policy rather than following a single corporate rule.
Check whether The UPS Store is open today for that side of the question. It will not always match this page.

What weather and other unplanned closures change
The 2026 schedule above only covers planned holidays. Severe weather, natural disasters, and local emergencies can close a specific UPS facility on any date, including a normal Tuesday.
Those closures are location specific and announced with little notice. UPS posts active service alerts on its own site. A facility near a storm path is the one place this table cannot predict for you.
