Banks close on the third Monday of February. So do courts, most schools, and every post office in the country.

UPS does not. That gap is the whole reason is UPS open on Presidents Day gets searched so hard every February.

UPS Ground, UPS Air, international service, and The UPS Store all run their usual Monday on February 16, 2026. If you held a box back because you figured nobody was working, send it.

There is one wrinkle, and it involves the post office rather than UPS. I will get to it, because it is the part that actually delays packages.

Is UPS open on Presidents Day, or just partly open?

Fully open. UPS keeps its own holiday shipping schedule. It has nothing to do with the federal calendar that banks and government offices follow.

On the 2026 schedule, Presidents Day shows Domestic Ground, Air, and International as open. Air and Ocean Freight is open too. UPS Express Critical is available, as it is every day of the year.

A package picked up the Friday before moves over the weekend and lands Monday on time. No extra transit day gets added for this holiday.

One small oddity: the federal government still officially calls the day Washington’s Birthday. UPS writes Presidents Day on its own schedule, and so does everyone else.

Why so many people think UPS is closed

Presidents Day is a federal holiday, and the closed doors pile up. Banks, the stock market, courts, DMVs, public schools, and the post office all go dark on the same Monday.

It is easy to assume the brown trucks are parked too. UPS is a private company, though, and its closure list is short. New Year’s Day, MLK Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

That is it. Presidents Day has never made that list.

UPS holiday schedule for Presidents Day 2026

Service Presidents Day status Notes
UPS Ground Open, normal delivery Standard weekday schedule
UPS Air (Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air, 3 Day Select) Open, normal delivery No added transit day
UPS International Open Normal pickup and delivery
UPS Air and Ocean Freight Open Normal operations
UPS Express Critical Available Runs every day of the year
The UPS Store Open Franchise hours, confirm your local store
UPS Ground Saver and UPS Mail Innovations Open, but one extra business day USPS handles the last mile on many of these, and USPS is closed

The one catch: UPS Ground Saver and Mail Innovations

This is the wrinkle. UPS Ground Saver, the service that used to be called SurePost, leans on USPS for the final doorstep leg on many packages.

So does UPS Mail Innovations. UPS delivers some Ground Saver packages itself now, but plenty still get handed to your local post office.

USPS is closed on Presidents Day. UPS says so right on its schedule. Ground Saver and Mail Innovations deliveries require one additional business day in transit.

So the package is not stuck and not lost. It is sitting at a post office that reopens Tuesday. Standard UPS Ground, which UPS carries door to door, never touches this problem.

For the full mechanics, including how to tell which leg your package is on, see our guide to how SurePost and Ground Saver packages travel covers it.

Is the UPS Store open on Presidents Day?

Almost always. The UPS Store locations are franchises, so each owner sets the hours. The 2026 UPS schedule still lists the stores as open on Presidents Day.

The exceptions are stores inside malls, office towers, or campus buildings that follow the building’s holiday hours. If a deadline is tight, a 30 second phone call beats a wasted drive. Notary service in particular can hinge on one employee who took the day off.

What about USPS and FedEx that day?

USPS is closed. No counter service, no regular mail delivery, and no Ground Advantage or Priority Mail drops.

Priority Mail Express is the one USPS product that keeps moving on holidays. The rest of the details are in our page on whether USPS is running today.

FedEx lands in between. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground deliver on Presidents Day under what FedEx calls a modified schedule.

In practice that means some on call and drop box pickups happen earlier than usual. FedEx Office keeps regular hours.

Does UPS deliver to closed businesses that day?

This is a quieter Presidents Day problem. UPS runs, but a lot of offices, schools, and government buildings do not. A package addressed to a closed business gets an attempt, a locked door, and a note.

UPS tries again Tuesday. If the shipment is signature required, nobody is there to sign, so the same thing happens. Home deliveries are unaffected, since the driver leaves the package like any other Monday.

If you are sending to a bank, a courthouse, a school, or a federal office, ship so it lands Tuesday. Sending to a house or a regular store is fine either way.

Can you schedule a UPS pickup on Presidents Day?

Yes. Drivers make their regular pickups that Monday. A request booked through ups.com or the app goes through like any other weekday.

Drop offs work too, at a UPS Customer Center or The UPS Store. The only pickup that gets shaky is a Ground Saver or Mail Innovations package.

Even then the UPS pickup itself is fine. It is the USPS half of the trip that pauses.

Should you ship on Presidents Day?

Most people asking is UPS open on Presidents Day really want to know whether to ship today. Standard Ground or Air? Go ahead, nothing about the holiday touches your delivery date.

Ground Saver or Mail Innovations with a firm deadline? Add one business day. Or, if it were me, pay up for regular Ground that week and skip the handoff entirely.

Run the dates through our delivery time estimator if the timing is tight. Use the holiday and delivery day checker for any other date.

Do not assume every holiday works this way

Presidents Day and Veterans Day follow the same script: UPS open, USPS closed, Ground Saver one day slow. Memorial Day is the opposite. UPS closes completely that Monday, so a package shipped the Friday before waits until Tuesday.

The full year of dates lives in our UPS open today guide. Bookmark that one if you ship often.

Bottom line

Is UPS open on Presidents Day? Yes, in every way that matters: Ground, Air, international, freight, pickups, and The UPS Store.

The only thing that slows down is a Ground Saver or Mail Innovations package waiting on a closed post office. Give it a day, and it shows up Tuesday like nothing happened.
