The Express line deserves one caution. USPS says Priority Mail Express holiday delivery is offered in many major markets for an additional fee. A package mailed on Wednesday with that option is the only thing that can reach a door on Thursday.

Wednesday, the day before
Offices are told to clear collection points in front of and within the Post Office, and all available mail is dispatched. That is why a Wednesday afternoon drop still leaves town the same day. Counters keep normal hours, and USPS does not shorten them for the eve.
Thursday, the holiday
The memo states there will be no regular delivery service except for Holiday Premium Priority Mail Express. Sunday/Holiday Same Day Package Delivery is the other named exception. Operations staff on duty check and clear collection points, but there are no regular collections.
Amazon drops happen at Amazon delivery units on the holiday. Offices are not required to deliver Amazon that day, so an Amazon parcel handed to USPS waits for Friday too.
Friday, the day after

Is USPS closed on Thanksgiving for a package you were expecting?
Yes, for anything other than Express. A Ground Advantage or Priority Mail parcel with a Thursday estimate shows its next scan on Friday or Saturday. Under the USPS service standards rule, the holiday is not counted in the expected delivery time when the item was mailed the day before.

How to mail around Thanksgiving
- Hand anything time sensitive to a clerk by Wednesday, November 25, 2026. It is dispatched before the holiday.
- Need Thursday arrival? Ask for Priority Mail Express with holiday delivery on Wednesday and confirm the destination qualifies.
- On Thursday, use a 24/7 kiosk or a Smart Locker drop if your lobby is open, and expect movement on Friday.
