How much is FedEx overnight? With the FedEx One Rate option, a Standard Overnight envelope costs $39.90 locally and $55.60 across the country, Priority Overnight costs $49.50 to $81.95 for the same envelope, and First Overnight runs $103.50 to $135.95. Boxes cost more, and standard rates change with distance, weight and delivery speed.
How much is FedEx overnight depends on the shipment, because FedEx does not charge one price for every overnight package. The final number depends on how early you need it there, how far it goes and how big the package is. The figures below come from the FedEx One Rate sheet effective September 11, 2026.
How much is FedEx overnight by service
FedEx sells three overnight services. They all deliver on the next business day, but the delivery window and the price are different.
| Service | Delivery time |
|---|---|
| First Overnight | 8 to 9:30 a.m. in most areas, and up to 2 p.m. at some extended locations |
| Priority Overnight | By 10:30 a.m. to businesses, by noon to homes |
| Standard Overnight | By 5 p.m. to businesses, by 8 p.m. to homes |
Earlier delivery costs more. Standard Overnight is the cheapest of the three, and First Overnight is the most expensive. The FedEx One Rate sheet prices all three, and First Overnight costs roughly twice as much as Priority Overnight for the same packaging.
How much does FedEx overnight cost with One Rate
One Rate gives you a single price based on the packaging, the destination zone and the speed. It applies to FedEx envelopes up to 10 lb and to paks, boxes and tubes up to 50 lb.
The price already includes residential surcharges, delivery area surcharges and the fuel surcharge. That makes it easy to predict, but the table shows it is not always cheap.
| Packaging and zone | Standard Overnight | Priority Overnight | First Overnight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Envelope, local (zone 2) | $39.90 | $49.50 | $103.50 |
| Envelope, regional (zones 3 and 4) | $41.55 | $66.05 | $120.05 |
| Envelope, national (zones 5 to 8, Alaska, Hawaii) | $55.60 | $81.95 | $135.95 |
| Pak, local | $43.25 | $52.75 | $106.75 |
| Pak, regional | $50.30 | $75.95 | $129.95 |
| Pak, national | $66.30 | $97.10 | $151.10 |
| Small box, local | $54.75 | $61.45 | $115.45 |
| Small box, regional | $77.05 | $107.85 | $161.85 |
| Small box, national | $101.75 | $148.20 | $202.20 |
| Medium box, local | $59.40 | $70.95 | $124.95 |
| Medium box, regional | $81.30 | $122.90 | $176.90 |
| Medium box, national | $105.80 | $167.65 | $221.65 |
| Large box, local | $71.65 | $79.00 | $133.00 |
| Large box, regional | $97.90 | $139.55 | $193.55 |
| Large box, national | $146.70 | $193.05 | $247.05 |
Local means zone 2, regional means zones 3 and 4, and national means zones 5 to 8 plus Alaska and Hawaii. You can look up your zone with the FedEx rate tools. FedEx can change rates, so confirm the price on the FedEx One Rate page before you ship.
What the One Rate prices mean in practice
The table makes the pattern clear. Distance and speed matter more than almost anything else. A national Priority Overnight envelope costs $32.45 more than a local one, and a national Standard Overnight envelope costs $15.70 more.
Speed adds its own premium. On a regional pak, Priority Overnight costs $25.65 more than Standard Overnight, and First Overnight adds another $54.00 on top of Priority. On a national large box, the Standard to Priority gap grows to $46.35.
So how much is FedEx overnight for a typical shipment? A regional medium box costs $81.30 on Standard Overnight and $122.90 on Priority.
If the recipient is a business and a 5 p.m. delivery works, Standard Overnight saves $41.60 on that box. If the contents are needed in the morning, the extra money buys time, not a better service.
Keep in mind that One Rate sets the price by packaging, not by what is inside. A dense, heavy item in a small box costs the same as a light item in the same box, as long as it stays within the weight limit. If a package is overstuffed beyond the volume, weight or thickness limits, FedEx reclassifies it and rates it as a box based on its cubic volume.
How much to overnight a letter with FedEx
A letter fits in a FedEx envelope, so the envelope rows above answer how much it costs to overnight a letter with FedEx. On One Rate, that is $39.90 to $55.60 for Standard Overnight and $49.50 to $81.95 for Priority Overnight, depending on the zone.
FedEx supplies the overnight packaging for free, so you do not have to buy anything. If you need an envelope, see where to get FedEx envelopes.
One Rate applies no account discounts, so a business with a discounted account may pay less on regular rates. It does include up to $100 in declared value at no extra cost.
What changes the price of a FedEx overnight package
FedEx names three main drivers on its overnight page. Each one can move the price a lot.
- Delivery time. A later commitment is cheaper. Standard Overnight beats Priority, and Priority beats First.
- Distance. FedEx prices by zone, so a local package costs far less than one going coast to coast.
- Weight or size. FedEx charges the greater of actual weight and dimensional weight. A light but bulky box is billed on its size.
You can check the size side of this with the dimensional weight calculator before you pack. Standard rates can also add surcharges for things like home delivery, which One Rate folds in.
Limits and delivery days for FedEx overnight
Overnight shipments can weigh up to 150 lb, with a maximum length of 119 in and a maximum of 165 in for length plus girth. Delivery runs Monday through Friday. Saturday delivery exists in select areas for an extra charge, and holding a package at a FedEx location for Saturday pickup is free.
The One Rate sheet adds its own rules. Saturday delivery, signature options and on call pickup cost extra, and dry ice is not allowed. Items that need dry ice must go on regular rates.
Ways to pay less for FedEx overnight
You do not have to accept the first number you see. FedEx lists several ways to lower the cost, and a few cost nothing to try.
- Pick Standard Overnight if a 5 p.m. business delivery is early enough.
- Open a FedEx account and compare its rates with One Rate.
- Ask about multiweight pricing if you send several boxes together.
- Check FedEx Rewards, which FedEx lists as a saving option.
- Use the free FedEx overnight packaging instead of buying your own box.
- Compare One Rate with standard rates, because a light package can cost less on the standard price.
Another option is a different carrier. The USPS Priority Mail Express Flat Rate Envelope costs $35.90 at retail under the July 12, 2026 price notice. Use the shipping cost comparison to line up carriers.
For USPS prices by weight and zone, the postage price calculator does the lookup. Keep the delivery time in mind, because a cheaper price is only a saving if the package arrives when you need it.
Bottom line on FedEx overnight pricing
Expect roughly $40 to $82 for a Standard or Priority Overnight envelope on One Rate, $104 to $136 for First Overnight, and more for boxes, up to $247.05 for a national First Overnight large box. The exact total depends on speed, zone and packaging. Before you pay, check what a regular rate quote says too.
