FedEx does not deliver on its Closed holidays, and three remain in 2026: Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26, Christmas Day on Friday, December 25, and New Year’s Day on Friday, January 1, 2027. The question does FedEx deliver on holidays gets a yes or a maybe on every other date, because FedEx runs normal or modified service.

Columbus Day and Veterans Day are Modified Service, not Closed. Check the FedEx column of the 2026 FedEx holiday schedule, since a store opening and Custom Critical status are separate matters. This guide covers every 2026 date, what each label means, and what to do before a closed day.

What does FedEx do on the remaining 2026 holidays?

As of early October 2026, the next dates to plan around are Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, and Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11. Both are Modified Service for FedEx. After that come the holidays with real closures.

Date Day FedEx FedEx Office Custom Critical Logistics
Oct 12 Columbus Day Modified Service Open Open Open
Nov 11 Veterans Day Modified Service Open Open Open
Nov 25 Day before Thanksgiving Modified Service Modified Hours Open Open
Nov 26 Thanksgiving Closed Closed Open Closed
Nov 27 Day after Thanksgiving Modified Service Open Open Open
Dec 23 Wednesday Open Open Open Open
Dec 24 Christmas Eve Modified Service Modified Hours Open Open
Dec 25 Christmas Day Closed Closed Open Closed
Dec 26 Saturday Open Open Open Open
Dec 31 New Year’s Eve Modified Service Modified Hours Open Open
Jan 1, 2027 New Year’s Day Closed Closed Open Closed
Jan 2, 2027 Saturday Open Open Open Open

FedEx also publishes a winter schedule. It says all locations and operations are unavailable on November 26, December 25 and January 1. It lists early pickups and drop box closures in some areas on November 25, 27 and 28, December 23, 24, 26 and 31, and January 2.

Holiday guides for the big dates

Christmas Day has its own guide: the Christmas Day schedule covers December 25 and the days around it. For the last days to ship before Christmas with every carrier, see the 2026 holiday shipping deadlines.

What do Closed, Modified Service and Open mean?

FedEx uses three words in the FedEx column of its schedule: Open, Modified Service and Closed. They do not mean the same thing, and the middle one is the one people misread.

Closed

Closed means FedEx is not operating that day. The FedEx summary page lists Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. The 2026 schedule also marks Easter Sunday, April 5, as Closed.

On Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, the winter schedule says all locations and operations are unavailable. Plan as if nothing will move that day.

Modified Service

Modified Service is FedEx’s label for a partial holiday. The schedule footnote defines it as early pickups on call and drop box pickups, including drop box closures, in some areas. It is a statement about pickups.

The footnote does not mention deliveries, but the FedEx Express terms do: none of these dates is in the holiday list that defines a business day, so delivery commitments count them as working days. Check the tracking page for your own package. Dates on the schedule that carry this label are Martin Luther King Day, Presidents’ Day, Good Friday, July 3, Columbus Day, Veterans Day and the days around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.

Open

Open means FedEx lists the day as normal operations. Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, 2026, was Open on all four columns. Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are listed as Open as well.

A quick comparison

2026 holiday Date FedEx status
Martin Luther King Day Mon, Jan 19 Modified Service
Presidents’ Day Mon, Feb 16 Modified Service
Good Friday Fri, Apr 3 Modified Service
Easter Sun, Apr 5 Closed
Memorial Day Mon, May 25 Closed
Juneteenth Fri, Jun 19 Open
Day before Independence Day Fri, Jul 3 Modified Service
Independence Day Sat, Jul 4 Closed
Labor Day Mon, Sep 7 Closed

The rest of the year is in the first table. Together they answer what holidays FedEx is closed: Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Does FedEx deliver on holidays for other services?

Yes, for some of them. The FedEx column is only one of four. The other columns often show a different answer for the same date.

FedEx Office

FedEx Office has its own labels: Open, Modified Hours and Closed. It is Closed only on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day 2027. On Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day it shows Modified Hours, and the footnotes say some locations are closed.

Hours vary by location, so call the store before you drive over. A store being open is not proof that the carrier is delivering.

Custom Critical

Custom Critical is Open on every date in the schedule, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. The summary page says it remains open on all listed holidays. It is a dedicated service for urgent freight, not the standard parcel network.

FedEx SameDay

FedEx says SameDay operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That makes it the option for a package that must move on a closed day. Expect it to cost far more than standard service.

FedEx Logistics

Logistics follows the closed holidays for the most part. It is Closed on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. One exception: customs clearance at land border crossings between the United States and Canada is available 24 hours a day through FedEx Logistics.

Does FedEx ship on holidays, and what about weekends?

Readers who ask does FedEx ship on holidays often mix up shipping and delivering. A package you drop off on a Modified Service day may be picked up from a drop box earlier than usual, or not at all in some areas. A package dropped off on a closed day waits for the next operating day.

FedEx Home Delivery operates every day of the week, typically by 8 pm. Weekend delivery has no added charge. Saturday coverage reaches over 98% of the population, and Sunday nearly two thirds.

Standard FedEx Ground does not deliver on Saturday, and business addresses are served Monday through Friday. For the full weekend picture, read the guide to FedEx weekend delivery.

How do holidays affect delivery dates and transit time?

FedEx Ground is quoted in business days: 1 to 5 in the contiguous United States and 3 to 7 for Alaska and Hawaii. Overnight services deliver the next business day. The FedEx Express Terms and Conditions in the Service Guide define a business day as Monday through Friday except Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and say a shipment scheduled for delivery on one of those holidays is delivered the next business day.

Closed days drop out of the count. Take a Ground package quoted at 3 business days that ships Tuesday, November 24, 2026. Wednesday is day 1, Thursday is skipped, Friday is day 2 and Monday, November 30 is day 3.

A second example is a package that ships overnight on Wednesday, December 23. The next business day is Thursday, December 24, a Modified Service day. Ship a day earlier if the delivery date matters.

Time definite FedEx Expedited services have commitment times extended by 90 minutes from November 23 through January 4. That applies at home and abroad.

Does FedEx deliver on holidays near Thanksgiving and Christmas?

The three year end closures are the ones that break plans. Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day each sit next to a Modified Service day, so the lost time is often two days, not one.

Take Thanksgiving week. Wednesday, November 25 is Modified Service, Thursday is Closed and Friday, November 27 is Modified Service again. A package that needed Wednesday handling may not move until Friday or Saturday.

Christmas week is similar. Wednesday, December 23 is Open, Thursday, December 24 is Modified Service, Friday is Closed, and Saturday, December 26 is Open again. Monday, December 28 is also Open.

New Year’s week is the same pattern. December 31 is Modified Service, January 1 is Closed and Saturday, January 2, 2027 is Open. Ground pickups are modified on both December 24 and December 31.

Do business and residential addresses get the same service?

Not always. FedEx Ground serves business addresses Monday through Friday, and standard Ground has no Saturday delivery. Home Delivery serves homes every day of the week.

That means a business address gets nothing on a Closed Friday, and the next try is Monday. A home address may see a package on Saturday if the schedule shows the day as Open. Date Certain Home Delivery lets you pick any date from Monday to Sunday, excluding holidays, but not earlier than the standard date.

Appointment delivery gives a two hour window, and Evening delivery runs from 5 to 8 pm. Both are chosen when the label is created, and fees may apply.

What should you do before a closed holiday?

Closed days cause the most missed deadlines. These steps cover the usual cases.

  1. Open the tracking page and read the estimated delivery date and window. It is the only date specific to your package.
  2. Check whether the date falls on a Closed or Modified Service day in the tables above.
  3. For a gift or a deadline item, ship at least two business days before the closed day. Use the FedEx last days to ship page for service by service dates.
  4. If you will be away, request a Hold at Location. FedEx holds the package at a secure location for up to 7 days before it returns to the shipper. Ask before midnight the day before delivery.
  5. Use the Postal Holiday Checker to compare carriers when you need to know who is running on a given date.

A worked example before Christmas

Say you ship a gift by Ground on Monday, December 21, and the tracking page promises Thursday, December 24. That is a Modified Service day, so early pickups may change in your area. A Friday arrival is not possible, because December 25 is Closed.

If the gift must be there for the holiday, move the ship date up. A package that misses Thursday will likely wait for Saturday, December 26, which is Open. Confirm with tracking, because FedEx does not promise this for every service.

When should you worry?

A delay on or right after a Closed day is expected. A tracking date that passes with no update on a normal business day is not. If the estimated date was a Closed day, wait for the next operating day before you call.

If tracking shows an exception, FedEx says causes include extreme weather or customs delays. Check the service alerts page for weather disruption. Those events can close a location on a day that is Open on the schedule.

What do we know about FedEx holidays in 2027?

For 2027, does FedEx deliver on holidays cannot be answered beyond January 1 and 2. FedEx has not published a full 2027 holiday schedule yet. The only 2027 dates on the 2026 schedule are New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2027 (Closed), and Saturday, January 2 (Open).

By the calendar alone, Veterans Day falls on Thursday, November 11, 2027, and Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 25, 2027. FedEx has not stated its 2027 status for either one.

Schedules can change. FedEx says so on its holiday page, so check again closer to the date.

What to remember about FedEx holiday delivery

On the question of whether FedEx delivers on holidays, it stops completely only on its Closed days, which are Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day for the rest of this cycle. Modified Service days still run, with pickup changes in some areas. Check your own tracking page for the date, and build in a spare business day around any holiday.
